Our slips are all equipped with metered electricity, 60 HZ 120 and 240 volts 50 amp service through out the marina. On A, B, C docks we also provide 100 amps 240 volt service. On docks A , B and the Service/Work dock we can provide 480 volt 3 phase 150 amp service for the bigger vessels: 208 V 3 phase also being available on Dock B.

All slips have drinking water provided free for those using less than boat length (in feet) x gallons per day. Our finger berths on docks C, D, E and F are oriented in the direction of the prevailing wind. A big maneuvering bonus!

Docks A, B and the Service Dock 30 inches (80 cms) of free board, the rest have 18 inches (50 cms). All finger berths are designed to allow a 25 % vessel overhang and cleats for 2 sets of spring lines.

Most vessels in the marina rest on their bow/stern lines with fenders barely pressed against the dock: almost hanging idle.

There is no additional charge made for moving stands to allow bottom painting to be completed. For safety reasons this operation must be undertaken by our trained staff.

We also have available 2 large Forklifts, and a 30 ton Grove hydraulic crane so we can unstep masts for most sailboats up to 80 ft in length. Also to assist removal of other heavy objects without need to bring in outside heavy equipment contractors.

Boat Care Service And Cleaning
Boat Care support is a key service provided at Shelter Bay Marina. We will work together with you to maintain the vessels condition while stored (whether on the hard on in the water).

Each vessel has its own needs. Normally we would agree to provide a monthly reassurance report and immediate notification if anything critical warrants attention. Only our most dedicated personnel, vetted over an extended period, are involved with this process.

We can Shrink-wrap your vessel: the best available solution to keep a vessel clean and protected from UV radiation and rain. This will protect paint, lines, canvas and the general exterior condition, postponing those extensive refits required to restore the look and reliability of a vessel.

We provide industrial rated dehumidifiers with effective humidity level monitoring to avoid the effects of too high, or too low relative humidity. Crucially these units do not pose a fire risk: sadly evident with some domestic equivalents.

Our Boat Care service allows you to rest easy. Battery life is extended, bilges remain dry, no mold, the vessel is clean: just missing antifouling before being returned to the water. A sound investment to maintain the value of your vessel.

Provisioning in Colon/Panama City
You will find ample selections of goods at great prices in Panama. Many goods can be found cheaper in Panama than anywhere else.
  • Supermarkets in Colon. Probably the best choice is the REY supermarket in Cuatro Altos. There is also a Super 99 at the Colon 2000 Shopping Center. Both well stocked and modern. Our daily (not Sundays) bus takes you to Cuatro Altos Shopping Mall (See Transportation for details)
  • Hardware Items. Novey’s in the Millenium Plaza (half a mile from Cuatro Altos).
  • Liquor. Prices in Panama are generally excellent. If you need to purchase large quantities you may find good reason to visit the Free Zone in Colon (remember to take your passport). This also applies to Electronics and many other items.
  • Panama City.
  • Much of Panama City feels very first world with the best of hardware, supermarkets, electronics and ethnic stores to satisfy the needs and curiosity of many.
  • Our Panama bus shuttle leaving the marina everyother wednesday provides transportation from SBM back and forth at minimal cost to our customers. We also have an employee bus arriving and leaving to from the marina everyday on which a ride can be provided to you.
  • Otherwise there are comfortable and frequent coach services leaving Colon each day arriving at the modern Albrook Commercial Center in Panama City. For security reason you should take a taxi directly to the coach stop in Colon.
Transportation
Our location is privileged in many ways, however it does not provide easy access to public transportation. We do our best to overcome this, providing a variety of options to get you to the services you need.
  • Marina bus service to and from Cuatro Altos shopping center in Colon: Free service Monday thru Saturday at 08:00 with return at 11:15 (from the mall). There is also an afternoon service a Monday thru Friday leaving 12:45, returning 15:15. We charge for this in the afternoon ride during the low season. Some seats may be available on our employee bus service at 16:00, which connects with bus and train service to Panama City.
  • Taxi Services: The marina office can organize a taxi for you to most any destination, costs for this service vary considerably. Given that the cost to go to Panama City is generally $100 or more you might consider the following alternatives.
  • Car Rental: Rental car, prices and deals compare with the USA. Cars are mostly rented in Colon at the Cruise Port: it is possible they may be returned at other locations including the airport, costing less than the taxi. Road signs may be imperfect but the roads are the best in the region. Expressways can take you quickly to places of interest. Touring Panama by rental car is easy and popular.
  • Taking a coach to Panama from Colon requires prudence as the Colon terminal is within a neglected part of the city. A coach leaves the Colon terminal to Panama city approximately every 15 mins., departing when full. Cost is minimal, taking about 2 hours. Returning from the main terminal in Panama City (Albrook) you will need to obtain a $1.00 turnstile pass to enter the bus concourse and get on the return coach to Colon. Be sure to get off at the Cuatro Altos stop 3 miles before the Colon terminal. Take time to provision at the 24hr Rey supermarket before returning to the marina using the marina bus or a taxi (costing $20/25 usd).
  • Train. Panama Railroad: a great trip makes one round trip a day: leaves Panama at 07:15 and leaves Colon at 17:15. Runs along the canal thru the jungle, loads of wild life and a good view of the canal. Cost about $ 25 per person, everyone who makes the trip reports that it s well worth it.
  • Helo (helicopter) charters routinely come to SBM, the office will help you arrange one, costly but the trip over the canal is very interesting.
  • Getting to the airport: a taxi will cost approx. $120 day or night. Why not consider some of the options mentioned to avoid very early departures: spend a night at a good hotel with breakfast included. You could spend something similar to this taxi fee but arrive refreshed and relaxed at the airport: stress free having enjoyed a night in Panama’s capital city.
